10 Fun Activities to do with your kids!

I don't know about you, but my kids are officially done with camp for the summer. Part of me LOVES this time of year because we can all relax & just enjoy the rest of the summer....the other part of me knows, that they will be fighting like cats & dogs in T-minus 3 days...if that! So while I'm racking my brain to figure out what to do with my kids, I thought I'd share a few activities that they love.

    1. Paint. I'm sure you may have read that I hate all crafts, I especially hate crafts with paint & glitter. So one random morning I'll take both the kiddos outside to paint. We don't just paint on paper either, we grab stick, rocks, shells, leaves, etc. to make the paining even more fun.

    2. Mud pies~I'm sure you know how this works.

    3. $1 movies are still going on at Regal. Click HERE for all the info!

    4. We head to the library. Our library has a small play area with a house & puzzles and of course tons of books. It's a nice way to get out of the house & not spend a dime!

    5. We head down to the creek! We live near an arboretum with a creek going right through it. I am certain that one day my children will say throwing rocks in the creek was one of their greatest childhood memories.

    6. Linvilla Orchards. We buy a bag of old produce to feed the animals and then play on the playground.

    7. Check out one of the free concerts at Rose Tree Park.

    8. Lay on a blanket and watch the clouds/stars. I don't think anyone does this anymore...kids are always watching tv, playing a game, etc. Not just hanging out and doing a whole lot of nothing!

    9. Check out a different playground. It doesn't have to be one you have never been too, just one you don't often go too.

    10. If you're looking for a beach day, keep in mind that Sea Isle has FREE beach days on Wednesday! Any other day of the week, kids under 12 are free. Info HERE.

Keep adding to the list. What do you do with your kids for the rest of the summer?!

    Scheduling the Summer

I'm sure to some, the title scheduling the summer is an oxymoron, so please just hear me out!

There are probably 1 million studies that tell us our children THRIVE on structure, but I would guess the vast majority of parents, do not structure the day with their children.  I am one of those parents, my kids wake up whenever, eat whenever, etc.  I have no structure, until now!  In an effort to organize my life, I'm trying to work up a schedule for my kids.

I did a schedule with pictures for my 3.5 year old and because my 7.5 year old can read, she has a spread sheet.  I put in hours of pool time everyday, camp, chores & tv time.  I also added in time to read & do the work that was sent home from school to keep my daughter "fresh" in math.  I also scheduled some unstructured play time...which sounds funny to me, but I did it anyway.

I explained to my kids that the schedule can change in case it rains or we go out of town, but they're expected to stay on schedule as much as possible.  They both have chores to do and they will be rewarded with tv time & going to the pool.  If they choose not to complete a chore, they lose privileges until the chore is completed.

I'm really hoping this schedule works & that the kids don't fight me too much...but we will see and of course, I'll let you know how it goes!

Let me know what you think...do you schedule the day or not?
