Pets of the Week-Check out these cuties!!!

Brandi: Tortoiseshell & brown tabby
Medium Young Female Cat Pet ID: 46526
Say hello to your next Mom! Once known as “Mom,” this beautiful Tortoiseshell-brown tabby blend (aka a Torbie) is now known as Brandi 'cause the Delco SPCA receives so many mom cats, her name seemed a little unoriginal for her wonderful temperament. But we bet she's as sweet as any great mom you know. She's patiently waiting for you in her cozy little box at the Adoption Center for just a $20.12 adoption fee, as throughout the month of February, Brandi is one of 10 felines known as “Most Wanted Valentines.” Hurry, hurry and rescue Brandi today. She's been homeless since October, and that's just too long for a pretty kitty. Consider bringing Brandi home with one of her feline friends 6 months or older in the Delco SPCA’s ongoing “Save a Paw, Get a Paw” adoption special — two cats with a lifetime of love to give at one specially low adoption fee!

Rhawn: Boxer/ Pit Bull Terrier mix
Medium Adult Male Dog Pet ID: 48533
Rhawn is a lovable, silly 1-2-year-old guy that loooves people! It’s obvious he’s part Boxer with the signature Boxer wiggle-butt! He's very social and just wants to please people and be told what a good boy he is. Rhawn is a ball of energy. He plays a little rough with other dogs, so while he can live with canine friends, they should be on the submissive side so Rhawn can be the man of the house. With Rhawn’s limitless energy, he would make a great hiking or jogging partner. It is suggested that he go to a home with children 8 and older because of his energy level. This smart boy knows “sit” and almost knows the meaning of “stay,” and we know there’s plenty more for him to learn with his forever family. One look at his sweet face and soft eyes that beg, “Please take me home with you!” and he’s yours! Stop in to the Adoption Center in Media to meet Rhawn today. Rhawn is already neutered and vaccinated, and now through Valentine’s Day, his adoption fee includes a coupon for a free meal for his new family and a box of treats for him!

Hours for adoption are Monday through Saturday from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Throughout the year, the Delco SPCA is offering an Alley Cat Special in which a cat can receive a physical exam, spay/neuter, necessary vaccinations and FeLV/FIV combo test for just $75. Call 610-566-1370 option 3 to book an appointment for your cat or an alley cat today

Pets of the Week from the Delco SPCA

Bonita: Chihuahua Small Adult Female Dog Pet ID: 47026
Bonita is a sweet little adult Chihuahua that loves to snuggle with the ones she loves. She arrived at the Delco SPCA scared and unsure of everything and everyone, so thankfully an experienced foster home stepped in to help socialize her. Currently, Bonita shares her temporary foster home with another Chihuahua, and she cuddles with him all the time! She also gets along with dog-friendly cats. She is most comfortable around other animals, so she hopes her new home has at least one of them! Bonita loves to play with toys, especially balls and stuffed toys. Due to crystals in her bladder, Bonita must eat a special prescription food daily to avoid any blockages. The Delco SPCA offers this food at a discount! Her shy tendencies require a patient home, ready to move at her pace. When she finds someone who will give her a lot of TLC, she comes around. Beautiful Bonita is already spayed, vaccinated and microchipped, so she is ready to go home with you today! E-mail foster@delcospca.org or call 610-566-1370 to set up a meeting with Bonita today!

Tori: Dilute Tortoiseshell
Medium Young Female Cat Pet ID: 46875

Young Tori, a striking dilute Tori, looks like a very dainty cat, but since she’s so easy-going, she’s truly anything but dainty! So, don’t let the proper appearance and beautiful markings fool you. Tori came to the Delco SPCA in November. It’s now January, and she’s just desperate for a furever home. Tori would be best suited to a home with a patient owner who realizes that sometimes kitties need time to feel safe and secure before they show their true loving nature. Tori will blossom again with love and patience, so please consider giving her a second chance to find a furever home that really is forever. On Thursdays, Tori is just a $23 adoption fee in the Delco SPCA’s Lucky Number 3 adoption special! Hurry in and meet pretty Tori today! She is already spayed and up-to-date on all of her shots as well as microchipped!

Hours for adoption are Monday through Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Interested in advertising or sponsoring the Delco SPCA’s Rescued on the Runway fashion show on March 8? SPCA Pets of the Week

I am so excited to partner with the SPCA to help them advertise the Pets of the Week in 2012-most of you know my dog is adopted from the Delaware County SPCA & want to help make sure the animals featured find great homes with loving families!

Lucy; Dilute Calico
Medium Young Adult Female Cat Pet ID: 41764

Young Lucy, a striking dilute calico, looks like a very dainty cat, but since she’s so easy-going, she’s truly anything but dainty! So, don’t let the proper appearance and beautiful markings fool you. Lucy came to the Delco SPCA when her owner could no longer care for her in late April. It’s now January, and she’s just desperate for a furever home after all this time. Lucy would be best suited to a home with a patient owner who realizes that sometimes kitties need time to feel safe and secure before they show their true loving nature. Lucy will blossom again with love and patience, so please consider giving her a second chance to find a furever home that really is forever. In the Delco SPCA’s January adoption specials, Lucy is one of the Adoption Center’s “Most Wanted Snowflakes,” which means she’s just a $20.12 adoption fee throughout the month of January! Hurry in and meet little Lucy today!

Baby Girl: Boxer
Medium Young Female Dog Pet ID: 48132
Baby Girl is a sweet, loving Boxer that is eager to find a loving forever home. This poor gal was turned over by her previous owners. It’s hard to know why anyone would give up on this brindle beauty because she’s an all-around great dog. Aside from being a little hand-shy — most likely the result of someone not treating her very kind in her previous life — she is friendly with other dogs, cats and could live with children over the age of 7. Come meet this adorable girl to see if she might be the dog you have been waiting for. Baby Girl will win you over in no time with her gentle ways. Baby Girl is already spayed and up-to-date on vaccines so she's ready to go home with you today.

Hours for adoption are Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Throughout the year, the Delco SPCA is offering an Alley Cat Special in which a cat can receive a physical exam, spay/neuter, necessary vaccinations and FeLV/FIV combo test for just $75. Call 610-566-1370 option 3 to book an appointment for your cat or an alley cat today.

Favorite Local Nonprofit

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!! In honor of all the winter holidays, I'm participating in the 12 days of Holidays Carnival. Starting today, I'm posting my favorite holiday traditions, budget friendly ideas, etc.  I'll also be linking up with some of my favorite bloggers!

Today's topic:  1. Favorite Local Nonprofit

This is a tough one for me.  There are so many great nonprofits that help so many people in our area.  So I'll list my top three~maybe cheating but I don't care!

#1.  Philabundance:  Did you know there are nearly 1 million people who face hunger every day in the Delaware Valley?  "Philabundance was created in 1984 with the simple belief that no man, woman or child should go hungry."  Philabundance is the areas largest food bank and can feed one person for as little as 30 cents.  Find more information and consider making a donation at http://www.philabundance.org/

#2.  Cradles to Crayons:  How can this not be my top 3?!  The mission of Cradles to Crayons (C2C) is to provide children living in low income and homeless situations from birth to preteen the basic essentials, free of charge, that they need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn.  What I love the most about C2C is that it is so easy to help.  I can donate the clothes my children have never worn or worn very little & that makes a big difference in the life of another child!   C2C also accepts monetary donations.  To learn more check out http://cradlestocrayons.org/philadelphia/about-us.

#3.  Delaware County SPCA:  I have to be honest, I've know about the SPCA for a while but until we decided it was time to get a dog for our family, I had never been to the SPCA.  One trip was all it took, we found a great dog that our family loves and it made us realize how many other animals need the help of organizations like the SPCA. No donation it too big or too small.  Old towels and blankets, they use them for the animals, a few minutes a week to walk a dog, you can help too!  This year my 8 year old daughter wants to use some of her birthday money to buy treats for the dogs who are still at the SPCA.  I love that we have found an organization that she wants to help!  If you're interested in finding out more about the SPCA or considering adopting a pet of your own go to http://delcospca.org/.

What are your favorite local nonprofit organizations?  Do any of yours match mine?
