I posted a Facebook status looking for a variety of ways to work at home and had tons of responses from so many women. I have asked many women in a variety of work-at-home companies to let us know who they work with and how it works for them. Below is the second post in the series Work-at-Home.
I started reading a variety of blogs just over a year ago. I began to see how I could use coupons and the Internet to save my family a lot of money. By finding so many free to cheap family activities, we had a tons of activities to choose from each weekend. I finally decided I would start to write my own blog after a friend of mine, gave me the push (ie telling me more than once that I should do it!).
Now I search the Internet looking for deals & coupons, I am signed up for a ton of different store, museum, etc. emails and I have a few people who send me info on a regular basis. I spend a few hours a week finding and then posting the information. Before I started I had training in html code, making it a little easier for me. (If you want to see an example of html codes, right click your mouse over the Internet page and then click the view source tab. All websites are made of up of thousands of codes.)
Not everything on my site was coded by me. I used blogger which has templates and can be easily customized to fit your needs. However, I have noticed a few smaller blogs like mine that do no use pop-up windows (you need to code for it) and it will take you from their site to an external site. I try to keep you on my site!
Now, for the money. I wish I could tell you I just quit my part-time job because I am raking in the dough...but I'm not. I am hoping to sell some ad space soon so maybe I'll make some money (but I also need to figure out if I have to make Delco PA Moms a business, etc before I can sell anything. I don't want to get a visit from Uncle Sam!)
I do use google adsense and that has made me about $30 in about 4 months(which is only payable something like every quarter so technically I still haven't made a dime!). I know bigger blogs do make more money but no one has been willing to share personal income levels yet so I don't know how much is more. I personally blog because I think its fun.
Sometimes you get perks. I was chosen to test a Neutrogena sunscreen product which I'm hoping to receive this week because they want me to blog about it. I won't be paid, but I always need sunscreen so its a win for me. This was also the first product I was ever chosen to review so I'll let you know how that goes!
I can also get referrals from Shop at Home and Swagbucks. Shop at Home would give me up to $5 a referral but I haven't made any referrals so nothing happened there. Swagbucks I have earned a few referrals but I only receive points when my referrals search and earn points...so I haven't earned many points yet either.
I guess my long story short is...blog if you think it is fun and you think you have something to talk about that other people might want to hear...but don't do it for the money.
I hope Delco Moms becomes something big because I think its pretty awesome and I've gotten to talk with a lot of great Delco Parents, I probably wouldn't have met other wise!
