Kids Summer Reading Clubs and Challenges

Keep those reading skills up over the summer. Here is a list of reading clubs and challenges I found to help keep the kids excited about reading over the summer.

Kids Earn a Free Book from Barnes and Noble!
1. Read any eight books this summer and record them in the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Imagination’s Destination Journal.

2. Bring your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 22nd and Sept. 4th, 2012.

3. Choose your FREE reading adventure from the book list featured on the back of the journal.

Here’s what participating kids need to do:

1. Read 10 books this summer.
2. Print out the Summer Reading Form and write down the names of the books.
3. Take the form to the nearest TD Bank  
4. Get $10 deposited into a new or existing "Young Saver Account."
 May 5, 2012 - September 29, 2012. Must be 18 years of age or younger to participate. (Bring form of ID for child for new account opening).

Scholastic has a free online program designed to motivate and excite your children about reading books this summer. With the Summer Challenge, kids can log the minutes they spend reading, earn rewards, and help read for the World Record!

 How to participate:
1.Select the book list: the Award-Winning list is designed for kids who can read independently and the Early Reader list is designed for reading together with younger children.
2. Download the reading lists.

3. Read all summer and track your progress. (You can download a progress tracker poster).

4. Reward your reader (You can download a Certificate of Completion). Plus, visit a PBK store to receive a free book while supplies last. (Redeem by 8/31/12)

Sign up online and kids can track their progress as they read each book.
When they read 8 books, you can take them into Barnes and Noble to receive their free paperback.
Program runs from 5/24/10 to 9/6/10.
