October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month everyone know that, but what most people don't know, is that October 15th is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, which is officially recognized in the United States & Canada. You may also not know, that pregnancy experts believe that AT LEAST 25% of pregnancy ends in a loss. I personally had no idea how many women had miscarriages or lost children until I was already in the throws of motherhood and not until I had a miscarriage myself.
My story is so common and I mean, really, really common, like happens to a lot of women EVERY single day. I only found out I was pregnant because we were trying & I tested early...tested again and again to make sure it was right and every time there was that faint extra line, which became darker every time I tested (I couldn't help it & tested like 1 million times to make sure they all said the same thing!) and then suddenly, nothing but cramps & nausea. We never expected that we would have a miscarriage.
There are so many women, whose pregnancies end in miscarriage or who have children who pass away and the loss is devastating. For so many of these women, there are no reasons why and doctors have no explanations. “Baby loss” does not discriminate. Often, it’s young, perfectly healthy women who experience the loss of a baby... the faces of ALL kinds of women–young, old, black, white, thin, obese–pregnancy/infant loss can strike anyone."
Please take a moment today to think about the women who have lost a child and if you feel compelled, light a candle in memory of all the lost children. For more information on Pregnancy & Infant Loss Day please go to
