July 4th, 2012
I bought a Living Social Deal for the Crayola Factory this spring. We decided to head to Easton, PA for this Crayola Experience on this 4th of July. It took us an hour and fifteen minutes or so to get there. We had no problem using our deal and quickly got in to the factory. The theme throughout the factory this month is Jungle Safari. There were 4 safari crayons in different locations that the kids were to collect. The kids were also given tokens to redeem for get crayons, markers, and model magic.
The first thing we did was watch a demonstration about how crayons and markers are made.
The kids each got a freshly made crayon and marker after watching them being made.
Did you know that the tip of a brand new marker starts out white and it takes about an hour for the color to soak into the tip?
We were also given the tip that if you leave a lid off of your marker and it dries out, you might not need to toss it; just get the tip wet with water, replace the lid, shake it, and wait about 24 hours. Your marker should work just fine again!
We learned some history and some other cool stuff about Crayola too!
The 100 billionth Crayola crayon was molded by Fred Rogers of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood in 1996. The color was "blue ribbon."
The first crayon to be named by a kid
was the color "macaroni and cheese."
You can see the world's largest crayon at the Crayola Store, which is next to the factory. It weighs 1,500 pounds, is 15 feet long, and has a 16 inch diameter!
Besides collecting the special safari crayons, the kids visited various activity areas and created projects that went along with the jungle safari theme.
The kids had a blast with all the hands-on activities.
Here is a glimpse of a few of them:

My family really enjoyed our day. I am so glad we went!
FYI: This is not the real manufacturing plant.
It’s a colorful and creative visitor center
for children of all ages!
The themes and projects change periodically throughout the year.
