Family Nature Walks~Hildacy Farm Preserve

Hildacy Farm Preserve  (http://www.natlands.org/preserves-to-visit/list-of-preserves/hildacy-farm-preserve/)

The Hildacy Farm Preserve is a hidden gem, just off Route 252 in the Media area. The farm was originally part of a land grant from William Penn. In 1981, the Natural Lands Trust received the farm as a donation, and then established their regional headquarters at the site. Admission to the preserve is free.

A nature walk that covers a number of natural habitats, the Farm Preserve has 2 miles of walking trails ranging from easy to moderate. Four year olds and up would feel comfortable walking the trails, though there are no resting spots along the way. The trails are generally accessible for jogging strollers, but the strollers may be difficult to push up the steeper parts of the trails.

You'll find a slightly different selection of birds to watch here compared to Scott Arboretum which has a lot of the more common birds like cardinals, sparrows, and morning doves. Larger wildlife like groundhogs and wild turkeys can also be sighted, depending on the time of day.
Final Thoughts

Plan on setting aside at least 2 hours for a walk. A shorter walk is possible, but with kids along, you may feel rushed. Bring water bottles
for each person, along with sunscreen, and whatever you like to use to keep the buggies away. If it's rained recently, I highly recommend using puddle jumpers rather than sneakers. Morning walks are almost always wetter ones than afternoon walks, though afternoon walks can be quite hot in the summer. And, don't forget to bring a snack. My family always travels with food to keep everyone happy.
